Title: Educational Philosophy and Practice of General Courses on Excellent Traditional Culture in Universities——Taking An Introduction to The Four Books as an Example

Abstract: The Four Books are the core classics of traditional Chinese culture, embodying the essence of ancient Chinese Confucian thought. An Introduction to The Four Books has been a high-quality general education course at Guangzhou University for many years. As teachers involved in this course, we have made efforts mainly in four aspects: firstly, guiding students to establish value awareness and cultivate “warm sentiment and respect” for the classics; secondly, guiding students to read The Four Books as an engaging and delightful work; thirdly, returning to the original texts to help students accurately understand and recite important passages; and fourthly, encouraging students to think independently, bravely question and inquire. We hope that students can both earnestly study the classics and possess a spirit of reflection.

Keywords: An Introduction to The Four Books; value awareness; affectionate attitude; return to original texts; spirit of reflection
